Letters to the Editor

I have mentioned this before. You would be amazed at how many people read the letters to the editor, especially in a smaller community paper. I urge you to write to your local paper concerning the upcoming election. Here is my latest effort (just submitted):
To the Editor:

The General Election is less than two weeks away. It cannot be emphasized enough how important this election will be for the future of our country. Much rides on the outcome of the contests at the local, state and national levels. Don’t even think about not voting!

That said, I would hope that you would consider the effect of your vote on the world that our children will face in the coming years. We all wish for them to live in peace; to enjoy the proverbial life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. There is no doubt in my mind that if we continue down the path that we currently traverse, our children will be increasingly faced with peril to their life, threats to their liberty, and a sad, sad world of the future. The conflagration in Iraq should be enough to convince us of the threat to their lives; the recent stripping of the Constitution of habeas corpus by the President, the threat to their liberty; and the condition of many of our adolescents from violence and drugs, the last threat.

Please educate yourselves on the choices and vote as if your children’s lives depended on it. They may.
