Vice President for Torture

LONDON, England -- Former CIA director Stansfield Turner has labeled Dick Cheney a "vice president for torture."
This jerk lives in my County. I would like him to leave. I was here first.

Oh, and he seems to be sticking it to the taxpayers too, a rather exquisite form of torture:
WASHINGTON, November 16, 2005 — Vice President Dick Cheney and his staff have been unilaterally exempting themselves from long-standing travel disclosure rules followed by the rest of the executive branch, including the Office of the President, the Center for Public Integrity has discovered.

Yes. When the worm turns. Actually, we will unleash 1,000 hungry school kids (who didn't get their breakfast because of budget cuts) to inflict the Chinese torture of a thousand bites. Unfortunately, not until 2006, if we can hang on that long.

Holy cow, doc. This is a lot of posts in one afternoon. How long was the wait in the waiting room today?

Yuk, Yuk. Got a point there.

Please tell me that this isn't true:

1./ Children who "cannot be reasonably consulted," such as those that are mentally handicapped or orphaned newborns may be tested on. With permission from the institution or guardian in charge of the individual, the child may be exposed to chemicals for the sake of research.

That's number one. Now here's number two.

2./ Parental consent forms are not necessary for testing on children who have been neglected or abused.

Then next comes number three.

3./ Chemical studies on any children outside of the U.S. are acceptable.

The EPA proposal document he cites is here: Protections for Subjects in Human Research

The interpretation which he cites that the rules proposed by EPA would allow the testing of products on unprotected children is here.

dubhaltach,
At one point I was deeply involved in research involving new chemotherapy for kids with cancer. In that field, the question of informed consent is always a very big quandry. I have now read a little further in the EPA memo and am aghast! It is exactly like the torture question. Why are we even talking about intentionally exposing anyone to pesticides? I'll post on this.

Please do. I've no doubt that you're a member of several professional associations. Write to them too please. I'm doing as much as I can on researching this a bit more but to be frank this is an American govt. proposal so I hope Americans will lead in opposing it.

Your senators and congress people could do with a heads up too. What works better than email is a fax followed by a letter.
