Front Covers

I mentioned this in a comment over at JSBlog. It is really interesting what's on the cover and what's inside of a 1960's paperback. Here are some examples:

Doc,

That Babel 17 cover instantly rang a visual bell for me. I have a collection of sci-fi artwork from Bergen and Melvyn Grant. This collection is contained within two large books that were given to me when I was about 14 years old or so. There are a handful of artists contained in these books, but I'm not sure where I have them 'stored'. Will see if I can dig them up and post some of the artwork.

Pretty fantastic stuff for a child that always dreamed of traveling through space.

RJ,
I was convinced when young, like you, that some day in the not too distant future we would be traveling to the stars. When 2001 came out, it did not seem so fantastic. Instead, we got bogged down in crap like Iraq and Wall Street. Probably too late now.

Check out JSBlog for a more erudite discussion of these covers.

I'll be checking your blog!!

It'd also be an interesting test to see which are recognisable if you didn't know the title. Norstrilia definitely (from E'Telekeli and C'Mell). Ubik, just about (from the spraycan). Babel-17: I might have got there eventually. Space Lords: no way.
