An Interesting Evolutionary Observation

At least interesting to me. Consider the human skeleton below. Please note that all of the vertebral bodies (the bones of the spine) have transverse processes.
The transverse processes arise from the arch behind the superior articular processes and pedicles; they are thick, strong, and of considerable length, directed obliquely backward and lateralward, and each ends in a clubbed extremity, on the front of which is a small concave surface, for articulation with the tubercle of a rib.(emphasis added)

Hey Doc,

What's the debate on the ribs? What has sparked your curiosity here?

Being a closet ornithologist, I lean towards the theory of birds and dinos being closely related. Aside from some politcians, I can't see humans evolving from dino's.

Not sure what exactly we evolved from to be frank and factual.

My personal theory is that we are the cancerous parasite organism on the host planet. We are however, benign in that we will not kill the planet, but make it inhabitable for ourselves. The planet will go on as will various life forms long after we no longer exist.

I believe the latter will occur whether we ruin it for ourselves or some other thing removes us.

So, what sparked your evolutionary interests today?

Thanks for stopping by, RJ. I have been pretty upset by the craziness of the Radical Right pushing this thing called Intelligent Design. It is just one prong of the attack against everything I have believed in and I'm just pissed. They attack my idea of America, the confraternity of Man, the concept of caring for all children, even the poor, and a zillion other things winding up with their grab for absolute power (read Elizabeth Drew in the cureent New York Review of Books on "buying our Govenment.")
I'm also influenced by guys like Pharygula at
http://pharyngula.org/

But, don't be too upset about what an old geezer like me says. Its just getting it off my chest. Freudian therapy without the need of a psychoanalyst.

Holy Crap Doc!

You sound like I did a couple of weeks ago. (and will probably be that way again)

It is heavy isn't it?

The whole intelligent design thing is a ruse and aside from the ones pushing it I don't think it will get very far.

Notice how they call it "intelligent design" as opposed to what it is: creationism. (aka flat earth mentality)

It's anything but intelligent.

Part of me, a large part of me, is disappointed that I live in a time in history where regressives are attempting and succeeding to some degree at taking over this country. The gains they have made are a bit unnerving but I think by their very actions and rhetoric they will not succeed.

I could go on, but I have much to do.

I have not forgotten about your topic of kids today having higher IQ's. I have been discussing this with various people and actually more acutely observing my sisters' kids and their behaviors, questions they ask, etc.

In lieu with the ADD issue that you brought up, I think it's a great discussion and should be explored a bit.

Ok, back to the grind. Hang in there and keep venting. Anger is a healthy thing sometimes and I have had to learn that the hard way.
